We at Wells Soup are working to make our site wellssoup.org.uk accessible to people with disabilities.

What web accessibility is

An accessible site allows visitors with disabilities to browse the site with the same or a similar level of ease and enjoyment as other visitors. This can be achieved with the capabilities of the system on which the site is operating and through assistive technologies.

Accessibility adjustments on this site

We have adapted this site in accordance with WCAG guidelines and have made the site accessible. This site's contents have been adapted to work with assistive technologies, such as screen readers and keyboard use. 

  • Used the Accessibility Wizard to find and fix potential accessibility issues

  • Set the language of the site 

  • Set the content order of the site’s pages

  • Defined clear heading structures on all of the site’s pages

  • Added alternative text to images

  • Implemented color combinations that meet the required color contrast

  • Reduced the use of motion on the site

  • Ensured all videos, audio and files on the site are accessible

Accessibility arrangements at wells cathedral

Wells Cathedral provides mostly level access for Wells Soup, including the Nave, Quire, Cloisters, Undercroft and Camery Garden. 

 

Arrival & Parking

  • Disabled Parking: Allocated disabled bays are available on the High Street and St Andrew Street (maximum 3-hour stay).

  • Car Parks: Council-operated car parks with designated disabled spaces are located on Union Street, Princes Road, Tucker Street and South Street.

  • Blue Badge: Blue Badge holders receive unlimited free parking in the Princes Road, Tucker Street and South Street car parks. 

 

Mobility & Facilities

  • Entrances: The Visitor Entrance features level access.

  • Wheelchair Loan: Wheelchairs can be borrowed free of charge at the Information Desk, subject to availability.

  • Toilets: Accessible, wheelchair-friendly toilet facilities are available on-site.

  • Seating: Benches and chairs are located throughout the Cathedral and Cloisters for resting.

 

Sensory & Hearing

  • Hearing Loops: A hearing loop system is installed in the main worship areas.

  • Guide Dogs: Assistance and guide dogs are welcome.

  • Noise Warnings: Due to being a working cathedral, music rehearsals and essential organ tuning can cause loud, echoing noises that may affect hearing aid users or sensitive visitors.
