about wells soup
Wells Soup is a volunteer-led community fundraising project supporting local charities, groups and initiatives in and around Wells. We bring people together over a simple meal to fund and champion ideas that make our community a stronger, more connected place.
Since launching in 2016, our quarterly fundraising lunches have supported more than 100 local charities, community groups and projects, providing not only funding but also a platform to share their work with the wider community.
How it works
The idea is simple. At each quarterly Wells Soup lunch, guests enjoy freshly made soup from our friends at Fresh & Good while listening to short presentations from four local projects seeking support. After hearing each pitch, everyone attending votes for the project they would most like to support.
Entry is by a suggested minimum donation of £7, which includes a bowl of delicious soup and your vote. If you are able to give more, your generosity helps increase the funds available for the projects.
At the end of the event, the project receiving the most votes is awarded £500. The remaining three presenters each receive £150, ensuring that all four projects benefit from every Wells Soup event.
Our impact
Wells Soup is about bringing people together to support local ideas and the people behind them. Each event offers a chance to learn about projects making a difference in our community, meet others who care about Wells, and play a direct part in deciding where the funding goes.
Over the years, Wells Soup has helped more than 100 local charities, community groups and initiatives. Every event raises both awareness and funding, while creating new connections between organisations and the wider community.

community support
Wells Soup is made possible by the generosity of local businesses, volunteers and supporters who give their time, skills and resources to help our events succeed.
In 2023, the Bishop of Bath and Wells attended Wells Soup and was so impressed by the way it helps local charities and community projects raise awareness and funding that the event is now hosted in Wells Cathedral.
Bishop Michael said:
"Soup is this extraordinary gathering that builds community and forges social capital, cohesion and resilience."
We are grateful to Fresh & Good for providing our delicious soups and bread, as well as the many organisations that have supported Wells Soup over the years, including Wells Blue School, Burns the Bread, Morrisons, Bishop's Eye and Mickey, the flower stall guy, in the Market.
Our sincere thanks also go to the businesses and individuals who have generously match funded and sponsored Wells Soup events, helping us increase the support available for local community projects. Please click here to see our list of supporters.
